Express Scribe is an audio player designed for transcription. Although "Scribe" is part of the audio player's name, Express Scribe is a freeware product not related to our company.

 

Express Scribe is foot pedal compatible, features playback speed control and is available as a free download. You can find recommendations for compatible foot pedals on the site.

Below find the instructions to download and enable Express Scribe as the default audio player on your computer.

 

1. Go to http://www.nch.com.au/scribe/

2. Click "Download Now"

3. Click "Open"

4. Select "I agree with these terms"

5. click "Next"

 

This will install the player. The Express Scribe program should then be designated as the default program to open the dictation file type.

 

1. Click your computer's "Start"  button

2. Click "My computer"

3. Select "Tools"

4. Select "Folder Options"

5. Select "File Types"

6. IN the "Registered File Types" field, highlight the applicable audio file type (i.e., extension WAV and WMA)

7. Click "Change"

8. Select "scribe" from the program list. Note: If "scribe" is not located in the program list, click "Browse" and navigate to C:/Program Files/NCH Swift Sound/Scribe, select "scribe" and click "Open".

9. Click "OK"

10. click "Close"

11. Click "Close My Computer"

12. Open a Dictation from the Scribe MT platform to verify Express Scribe plays the dictation (click on the speaker icon next to the dictation in the queue OR if in the Editor page, click on Dictation>Listen to open and listen to the file in Express Scribe).

 

If files will not open please refer to IE setting for blocked auto-upload of audio files and Disabling Pop-up blockers. follow the instructions, reboot your computer and then log on again to MT platform.
